Here's a view looking south from the North Rim of the canyon at sunset. At sunset, the blue afterglow of the Kaibab Limestone is contrast to the orange sunglow of the underlying Coconino Sandstone.

Inspiration Point Sunset
This view of Yosemite Valley is from above the Wawona Tunnel Overlook. The vertical wall on the north side (El Capitan) and the south side (Cathedral Rocks and Half Dome - obscured by clouds) curve below the valley floor to make a giant u-shape.

Mammatus Clouds at Rio Vista
This was the view looking east from Dixon, California in the late afternoon of March 17, 2002. The mammatus clouds (cumulus mammatus) are the aftermath of a severe storm that dumped hail up to several inches deep over narrow areas and may have spawned tornadoes. This image received Third Prize in the Weatherwise Magazine 2002 Weather Photo Contest and was the cover of the September/October 2002 issue.

Downburst from Zion Overlook
From Highway 14 between Cedar City and Cedar Breaks, this vista point is the only location one can look down south into Zion Canyon. But this early evening view belongs to the distant cloudburst to the southwest, toward the Pine Valley Mountains.

Taken from James V. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, California, these Cypress catch the last glimmer of the Sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. Cypress hugging the edge of the shoreline cliffs are renown for their wind-pruned wedged shapes.

Delicate Arch
Perhaps the most recognized landmark in Utah, the Entrada Sandstone, which forms Delicate Arch, glows brilliantly at sunset. This is at the end of a 1.5-mile (2.4-Km) trial and a popular sunset-watching location.
