Golden Gate Photo - Golden Gate Bridge Gallery
Fine Art Photography of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California.
The Golden Gate Bridge was opened to the public on May 27, 1937, a year after the opening of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. For the first time, pedestrians and land vehicles traveled between Marin County and San Francisco. The bridge has a length of 4,600 feet (1,400 meters) and the towers rise 746 feet (227 meters). Each cable contains 27,572 parallel wires that are 7,659 feet (2,335 meters) long. That's a total wire length of 39,995 Miles (64,381 Km) per cable. That means the combined length of wire used in the cables, if stretched around the equator, would go around the Earth over 3 TIMES!
